Vision of Leadership

How would you lead in this changing world?  Lofgren (2017), stated “There is no one-size-fits-all leadership strategy”, I completely agree with this statement. Every individual has own unique attributes, and every team possesses its own unique chemistry. There is no such leadership that can fit all situations, an effective leader should be able to coordinate diverse teams, bring together people from different backgrounds and personalities, and lead them towards a common goal. Besides the variety of people, the world continues to change every day. It is essential to remain flexible in order to cope with the rapidly changing environment. In one situation, a particular leadership style might be effective, but in another, it could be disastrous.     The situational model of leadership suggests that no single leadership style is best (Cherry, 2020). It’s an adaptive leadership style that considers the different characteristics among team members, balances the various fact...

Managing Change

Image
Do you agree?    Following the above statement, it is true that there will always be people who have the spirit of adventure that may enjoy the changes and uncertainties, while others may be anxious about what lies ahead. Lives are full of changes, people might not like changes, but they do happen. And after a while, people become accustomed and start enjoying them. Change is a chance, it’s an opportunity to go down a new path, and a necessity of growth. It offers fresh insights, enhanced workplace policies and procedures, as well as a greater opportunity for those with a willingness to embrace it.   On the other hand, most people will actually resist change at first, although some can adapt to it quickly, some may find it hard to alter their mindset and behaviour. People tend to stay in a more comfortable and secure way, it’s hard to break the habit and incorporate changes. Research data shows that 62.71% of people agreed that uncertainty about the future worries them wh...

Analysis of Leadership

Leadership vs. Management   Leadership and management are both valuable competencies to an organization. They share similarities between them, but they are different. Similarities: Leaders and managers, both of whom aim to improve the organization, and are capable of working towards achieving the objectives. They guide their teams in the right direction to achieve the goals, and maintain by evaluation. They know the strengths and weaknesses of team members and how to handle conflicts within the team (Guardian, 2021). Differences: Managers give team members instructions, provide them with resources, and delegate tasks. They are also responsible to ensure that instructions and orders are followed by team members. Managers entail organizing, analyzing team workflows; controlling and maintaining their performance, as well as providing feedback. Leaders set expectations, and act as a role model (BFA, 2021). They influence and motivate team members and encourage them to contribute toward...

The Challenge of Managing Diverse Teams

Image
A diverse team in an organization encourages open-mindedness and encourages the sharing of different perspectives. When working with a diverse workforce, companies must create a culture where conflicting opinions are respected and dignity is upheld. Diversification is more than just ethnicity or culture, but also an individual's skills, strengths, weaknesses, and even experiences, all of which contribute to a diverse team and all differences are strengthened by working together.  However, a diverse team is also a potential source of conflict and can have a disastrous impact on productivity if it is not managed properly.  Advantages and Challenges An organization is usually more competitive with a diverse team, as a diverse team can produce greater productivity, flexibility, and creativity, which will all lead to greater outcomes towards the team objectives. Group members from diverse backgrounds may actually influence the behaviour of the majority social group in ways that...

Leadership and Ethics

Image
Leadership is to influence, inspire and help others become their best selves, building their skills and achieving goals along the way; it is a set of skills and a certain psychology that anyone can master (Robbins, 2021). Great leaders inspire creativity, motivation and flexibility in their organizations, they share common visions and work together with the team to achieve them. Effective leadership reduces turnover and promotes continuous improvement, resulting in a company with a higher bottom line and strengthening corporate cultures with a strong sense of passion and purpose.   What is ethical leadership? Villanova University (2021) has stated that Ethical leadership is a form of leadership in which individuals demonstrate conduct for the common good that is acceptable and appropriate in every area of their life. Ethics are becoming increasingly important in the world of business today. Thus, recognizing, developing and understanding leadership with ethics cannot be overstated....
